Who We Are

We are a multidisciplinary team of current and former healthcare specialists from Swansea Bay University Health Board and NHS Wales, working alongside researchers at PDR, Cardiff Metropolitan University. Our shared mission is to advance the co-design of assistive technology (AT) to improve lives.

Our Focus

Our research is inspired by the pioneering PhD work of Dr. Jonathan Howard, which demonstrated the value of co-design in creating personalised AT solutions. Building on this foundation, we bring design expertise to address the challenges of scaling co-design practices, making them more efficient, accessible, and environmentally responsible.

A History of Collaboration

PDR and Swansea Bay University Health Board have a long-standing partnership in custom medical device design and assistive technology innovation. Our work also extends to complex areas such as head and neck reconstruction—learn more at www.cartis.net.
